Letter from principalJune 10, 2009 Dear Parents: I hope you and your children are enjoying the summer. Even though the school year has just ended we are busy getting ready for the upcoming school year. A change that will be taking place at Howell Elementary for the 2009-2010 school year is the dress code for students. Next year students will be required to follow a new dress code. Items that are permitted to be worn to school are listed below. · Pants that are either Navy Blue, Khaki in color or jeans · Solid color polo shirts · Howell Elementary sweatshirts and t-shirts · Shorts and Capri’s that are either Navy Blue or Khaki in color; and jean shorts. Shorts must be no shorter than 1 inch above the knee and can only be worn up until November 1st and after April 1st · No writing is permitted on pants, shorts or capris · No dresses, skirts or skorts are permitted · No sweatpants, spandex or stretchy material pants are permitted Howell Elementary Site Based Council’s decision to establish the above dress code was based on the input they received from parents, students and teachers. We wanted to get this information out to you early, so that when you did your back to school shopping you would be aware of the new changes. We believe the new dress code will have a positive impact on our students and our school. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your son/daughter follows the dress code and wears the appropriate clothing each day. In addition I would like to give you the following important dates to mark on your calendar. · Beginning on August 3rd any parent/guardian that would like to Volunteer during the school year may come to our office to complete the required Background Check. · August 5th Student Assignments will be posted on the front doors of the school. · Open House will be held on August 13th at 6:30 p.m. · Class supply lists will be available at local stores. Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you on the first day of school. Sincerely, Eric Sayler, Principal
